In late summer 2024, Zenobia’s new album “Årsværk” will be released.
The album is a musical journey through the year.
Writing for the changing seasons is an old tradition, and the Danish hymnal is full of songs for every season. This album grows out of that tradition.
The concert includes Zenobia’s new interpretation of seasonal songs, as well as well-known songs from the Danish songbook.
The lyrics for the new songs are written by Martin Rauff-Nielsen and Iben Krogsdal.

Blot en ild

The release of the CD marked Zenobia’s celebration of their 10th anniversary in 2017. The music on the CD is composed by the trio themselves. The lyrics on ‘Blot en ild’ include classic texts with new melodies: Kai Hoffmans’ ‘Den danske sang er en ung blond pige’ and H.C. Andersen’s ‘I Danmark er jeg født’ are both presented in completely new settings, inviting listeners to revisit words that are often taken for granted. Additionally, there are newly written verses by Benny Holst and Zenobia’s longtime lyricist, Martin Rauff-Nielsen.

Zenobia Songbook

In celebration of Zenobia’s 10th anniversary, the trio released a music book containing sheet music for their own songs. Erik Sommer arranged the songs for choir. This songbook includes sheet music with melody, chords, and lyrics, as well as 3- or 4-part arrangements for most of the songs.

Throughout the 10 years of touring and recording with Zenobia, we received many requests for sheet music to our songs. We have continuously made sheet music available for free on our website and have been delighted to see the number of downloads steadily increase over the years. A few years ago, when the downloads of the most popular arrangements reached several thousand, we realized that publishing a comprehensive music book might find an audience.

The result of these considerations is this book with new songs and new arrangements. The release coincides with our fourth album “Blot en ild,” where a significant portion of the songs in this book are recorded for the first time.

During the decade we have worked on interpreting Danish songs—both new and old—besides the concerts we perform, we have also conducted several choir workshops. In this regard, we have had an excellent collaboration with Erik Sommer on arranging our music for choirs. Therefore, it was natural to involve him in this publication, and he has generously shared his expertise. This songbook includes sheet music with melody, chords, and lyrics, as well as a range of new 3- or 4-part choir arrangements.

The purpose of publishing this book is to give the songs a life beyond what we use them for; partly to support the kind interest we have experienced over the years, but also because as musicians within the Danish song tradition, we find it necessary, in a humble way, to contribute to keeping this tradition alive and prevent it from becoming overly museum-like or ritualistic. The songs are meant for use—both in everyday life and celebrations—and we hope they will find their voice at dinner tables, gatherings, singing evenings, and choir days.

Fra Fynske Kyster – Zenobia plays Carl Nielsen

Zenobia performs 16 Danish songs with melodies by Carl Nielsen, along with a medley of three folk music pieces: A Mazurka by Carl Nielsen’s father, Niels Maler, a polka composed by Carl Nielsen himself, and a Reel for Carl written by Mette Kathrine Jensen for Carl Nielsen. “Fra Fynske Kyster – Zenobia spiller Carl Nielsen” was presented as the “CD of the Week” on Denmark’s Radio P2 in week 30 of 2013.

Midnat

“Midnat” is Zenobia’s debut album from 2008. It features songs from summer and autumn, as well as other songs from the Danish songbook. The album includes both well-known compositions and lyrics, as well as Zenobia’s own songs and melodies. “Midnat” was nominated for a Danish Music Award.
