Mette Kathrine Jensen Stærk

Mette Kathrine is Zenobia’s accordionist and a herald of folk music. Through her own compositions, she brings new melodies to Zenobia’s repertoire.

She grew up in the folk music environment and was educated in the folk music program at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, Southern Denmark, where she has researched music traditions, a pursuit she continues. With an understanding of Danish folk music, she creates new works that maintain a connection to the past.

Mette Kathrine is a freelance musician, lecturer, and was appointed National Folk Musician in 2016. She has played for dances, concerts, and toured folk music festivals around the world.

She has an extensive list of releases and received a Danish Music Award in 2006 for her release with the duo Kvasir, a Danish Music Award honorary prize in traditional music in 2013, and was nominated for a YAMaward in 2016 for the world’s best children’s concert.
